10 Frequently Asked Questions

BNI Members-Westchester- White Plain-NY Frequently asked questions-FAQs
IS THIS A FREE MEMBERSHIP GROUP?

No, this an exclusive business group. Members pay an annual membership fee which gives them access to up 50  networking meetings a year, professional development opportunities, experiences to help them become better businesspeople, referrals, resources and more. In addition, we set annual or monthly dues to cover the cost of the meeting space, refreshments and outside, member-only activities. Please contact us if you would like to attend an intro meeting.

HOW MUCH TIME COMMITMENT DO I NEED FOR THIS?

Attendance is critical for members to best cultivate relationships with others in their chapter. Members are allotted three absences in a six-month period and can send a substitute in their place to avoid an absence. Outside of the weekly 90-minute meetings, members are encouraged to build relationships with other members by having One-to-Ones, opportunities to get to know another member and get a deeper look at another’s business.

HOW DO I JOIN BNI NETWORK ONE CHAPTER?

Visiting our BNI chapter is the first step in finding your new referral partners. Once you have visited our meeting and you believe we will be a good fit for you, you can apply for membership with our chapter Membership Committee. This process involves filling out an application and short interview with a Committee member.

DO I NEED TO BE SPONSORED TO JOIN YOU GROUP?

No, being sponsored is not a requirement to join this us. Upon joining this chapter, a new member may be assigned a mentor within our group, who will help coach you in developing relationships and in growing professionally and personally using BNI resources and more.

HOW DO YOU KNOW A NEW MEMBER IS REPUTABLE ?

The application process includes an interview with the Membership Committee, a background check and a reference check. This allows our members to know that the new members of their network are in good standing in their profession. Members are also encouraged to have 1-to-1 with new members so they can get to know each other and better identify the strengths and weaknesses of their businesses, ensuring the best referrals can be passed.

WHAT OCCUPATIONS BENEFIT THE MOST FROM NETWORKING?

Any occupation that can accept referrals can benefit from networking. For our current occupation openings, please check our "Join Us" page.

IF I SPECIALIZE IN A FIELD WITHIN MY PROFESSION, AM I EXPECTED TO BE AN EXPERT IN ALL ASPECTS OF MY PROFESSION?

Our BNI does not expect any member to be an expert in all aspects of their profession. On the contrary, being a subject-matter expert in your field and primary area of focus can help the rest of the chapter better learn what you do and how to best refer you.

DO ETHICAL RULES FOR CERTAIN PROFESSIONS PROHIBIT PARTICIPATION IN BNI?

Our BNI chapter understands the importance of the ethical concerns governing certain professions and acknowledges that rules can differ in a given situation. As such, BNI chapter requires members to uphold the rules of their professions to not violate their ethical obligations. In the event that our general rules could potentially violate a professional ethics code, our BNI rules are superseded by the dictates of the profession’s ethics’ code.

ARE MEMBERS ENCOURAGED TO BRING VISITORS?

Of course! Visiting our meeting is the best way for someone to decide if they are interested in becoming a member, and inviting someone to visit our chapter can be instrumental in helping membership grow. While members are welcome to invite other professionals to visit, they cannot invite another visitor in the same profession as an existing member of the chapter. However, their visitor(s) may be introduced to another chapter in the area.

HOW DO I GET AN APLICATION & CAN I APPLY ONLINE?

You can receive a paper application directly from the Membership Committee of the chapter that you are hoping to join.
